Eros, Imagination, and Neo-Romantic Perspectives on Human Freedom

This event will serve as an introduction to an ensuing workshop consisting of many elements of Zhenevere Sophia Dao’s philosophy of Neo-Romanticism, including Mythosomatic Movement (forms and dance), SACRa Theater, Language and Signification, and “Voice & Voice” (explorations of song, self, and other).

Zhenevere Sophia Dao will address the challenges to human freedom in a culture in which all acts of rebellion are instantly commodified into tropes of identity that feel “free” but are actually so constructed by consumerism and techno-media that the concept of “freedom” actually verges on totalitarian control.

Friday Evening [Lecture and discussion]

7 - 930pm (arrive from 630pm)

This will be a slightly larger group for people who choose just to buy tickets for the Friday night only.  Snacks will be provided by Brackish Foods.

If you decide to continue with the rest of the weekend exploration your ticket price will be deducted from the total weekend cost. This will only apply if the weekend is not sold out.

Saturday and Sunday [Lectures, discussion and movement classes]

10am-8pm ( inclusive of dinner )

These two days will be with a group of about 30 people where we will share an intimate two days together, learning, moving and connecting. Zhenevere’s teachings will guide us on an exploration of what it means to live soulfully in today’s world where our expression and ability to stay connected to ourselves and others are under stress.

Catering

The event will be catered by Amichai Lankri of Brackish Foods. Mealtimes will play an important role as time to sit and reflect or to unpack ideas with other participants – this will be supported by Amichai’s passion for cooking with locally sourced ingredients with a Middle Eastern / Mediterranean influence. The food will be vegetarian and will also cater for any dietaries. There will be refreshments and snacks provided for the Friday night and then lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday.

Accommodation

This is a non-residential retreat so participants will need to find their own accommodation. Warrandyte is approximately 30 minutes out of inner Melbourne but we encourage people to try and stay as locally as possible so we can have those extra moments to spend time together and maintain container for the weekend.
